The Department of Languages and Cultures consists of departments and research groups in the following domains: African languages and cultures (East and Central Africa), Oriental languages and cultures (Middle East & North Africa and South and East Asia (India, China & Japan/Korea)), Eastern European languages and cultures (Russia and South-Eastern Europe), and gender and diversity studies. One of the department's assets is a broad programme that is attuned to the growing social, political and economic demand for expertise in the languages and cultures studied and the research domains.
